E-COMMERCE START-UP ATTEMPTS GUINNESS WORLD RECORD
GreenCupboards Attempts to Make the Largest Recycled Piece of Paper in Spokane, WA
SPOKANE, Wash.(August 6, 2012) – GreenCupboards, a leading online retailer for eco-friendly products, announced today it is planting its roots for good at the McKinstry Innovation Center in Spokane and is matching its move with an even greater sign of innovation and growth by attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the Largest Handmade, Recycled Piece of Paper.
“We started GreenCupboards with a goal to leave the planet a better place,” said GreenCupboards CEO Josh Neblett. “While we’re an international company, selling across the United States and abroad, one of our main objectives continues to be fostering our local economy. This record attempt is an embodiment of our commitment to remain rooted in Spokane as we continue to branch out across the globe. Plus, who doesn’t like to make history?”
Starting at 4AM on August10th, GreenCupboards employees will mix pulp from recycled paper, construct a frame, and begin pouring the handmade concoction. The 1,200 square foot paper will be made using 800 pounds of recycled paper the company has been collecting for the last several months, along with donations from local businesses. The frame will be constructed from 80 recycled pallets and employees will use a 1,200 square foot sheet of landscaping fabric as a cast.
At 10AM, the greater Spokane community and press are invited to a press conference where CEO Josh Neblett will speak, along with representatives from the McKinstry Innovation Center and the Spokane Mayor’s office. Following remarks, all are invited to plant vegetable and flower seeds in the world record breaking piece of paper as it dries. This will not only allow community members to take part in this historic event, but also symbolizes GreenCupboards’ dedication to cultivating the growth of the Spokane community. Anyone who plants seeds is welcome to come back to GreenCupboards to take home a piece of the record breaking paper.
The attempt will take place in the parking lot of the McKinstry Innovation Center in Spokane at 850 E. Spokane Falls Boulevard. GreenCupboards will have witnesses and surveyors to monitor the Guinness World Record attempt. The paper is projected to dry by early evening – a sight not to be missed!
GreenCupboards is collaborating with the McKinstry Innovation Center in Spokane, Earthworks Recycling, Lowe’s, and Coffman Engineers Inc. to make this record attempt a reality. There is no way GreenCupboards could begin to attempt to set this record without these companies and organizations’ support.
Based in Spokane, GreenCupboards was the winner of a regional university business plan competition and was subsequently co-founded in 2008 by Gonzaga University graduates Josh Neblett, Sarah Wollnick and their Adjunct Professor, Tom Simpson.
